Software professional vs Construction laborer

My previous stint as software professional and my current job as construction laborer shows me the width of problems that exists in India.
Why width of the problem?
Its my observation that:

Lesser the gap between rich and poor, lesser the gap in wages of different skills, better and more harmonic is the society
